Things to Do

Explore the Best Activities at Uga Ulagalla

You may want to laze around, or just lie in bed; do nothing and just enjoy the peace and quiet of our resort and its hospitality. However, if you’d like to add a bit of activity, discovery, and colour to your vacation, here in the middle of the ‘Cultural Triangle’, there’s a wealth of places to visit and explore. Many of the things you could do and see in Anuradhapura are within a few minutes’ walk or bicycle ride from the hotel.

Organic Farm Cooking Demonstration & Lunch

Walk through the vegetable beds with our chef, picking what's ripe, including sun-warmed tomatoes, curry leaves, and herbs you might not know yet.

Junior Ranger Program

The Junior Ranger Programme gives kids a chance to see wildlife conservation up close, turning abstract ideas about nature into something tangible they can do.

Horse Riding

There are very few places in Sri Lanka where you can explore your surroundings on horseback.

Archery

Another unique activity that you can enjoy at Uga Ulagalla is archery. Set up amidst a grove of mature rain trees, it’s an activity for all abilities.

Ulagalla Scenic Drive

This unique drive takes you well off the beaten track, weaving along earthen tracks through rural countryside dominated by rice paddies.

Ulagalla Night Drive

Night comes and brings with it the haunting call of a nightjar as you climb aboard our customised 4x4 vehicle and head out on a nocturnal adventure.

Kayaking The Wannamaduwa Reservoir

The Wanamaduwa Tank is our venue for placid kayaking adventures at dawn or dusk.

Kayaking With Sundowners

Celebrate golden hour on the tranquil Wannamaduwa Reservoir as the afternoon shadows lengthen and twilight descends on the land as you embark on a mystical kayaking adventure.

Nature Walk

Embark on a magical morning walk through Ulagalla’s diverse habitats, as the soft rays of dawn awaken the local flora and fauna and the mist begins to fade.

Night Walk

After dark, Ulagalla becomes a different place. The night walk shows you what comes out only after sunset, creatures you'd never spot during the day.

Anuradhapura Tour

Anuradhapura was Sri Lanka's first capital, and what remains tells you how central Buddhism was to everything built here.

Ritigala Monastery

Ritigala sits on the slopes of the highest mountain in Sri Lanka's dry zone, buried under thick forest for centuries before archaeologists found it.

Dambulla Cave Temple

Dambulla's cave temples sit atop a granite outcrop you have to climb to reach. Inside, five caves hold what might be the island's best-preserved collection of ancient Buddhist art which includes 157 statues of the Buddha and frescoes covering nearly every surface.

Sigiriya Tour

Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage site, rises 200 metres straight out of flat farmland, a massive rock fortress you can spot from miles away.

Polonnaruwa

Travel east to Polonnaruwa, where Sri Lanka's second ancient capital stands in remarkable condition.

Aukana

Rising twelve metres and carved from a single granite stone, The Aukana Buddha, with its hand raised in blessing, has stood beneath the open sky for over fifteen hundred years.

Mihintale

Mihintale mountain holds a very important place in Sri Lankan memory, it's where a monk named Mahinda met King Devanampiya Tissa over two millennia ago, and that exchange planted seeds that would grow into the Buddhist traditions woven through every part of island life today.

Anuradhapura Tuk Tuk Tour

There's something about exploring Anuradhapura from a tuk tuk that changes the entire experience, and we mean that in the best possible way.

Elephant Gathering At Minneriya

Witness one of Asia's most stirring natural spectacles as hundreds of wild elephants converge at Minneriya National Park during the dry season.

Wilpattu National Park

Wilpattu is Sri Lanka's biggest national park covering 1,317 square kilometres of forest dotted with over 60 natural lakes locals call villus.

Village Bicycle Tour

Cycle through narrow lanes that cut between rice paddies, past family compounds and village workshops where life moves at a different speed.

Anuradhapura Bicycle Tour

Cycling through Anuradhapura gives you the city at a pace worth having. Quiet lanes wind between dagobas and crumbled monastery walls, and pedaling keeps you close to the landscape and the particular stillness old places carry.

Combined Cultural Tours (Sigiriya + Dambulla)

There's something remarkable about experiencing Sigiriya and Dambulla together, not just because they're both UNESCO sites, but because they show you two completely different expressions of what mattered most to the people who created them.

Combined Cultural Tours (Sigiriya + Polonnaruwa)

Experiencing both Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa reveals how Sri Lankan civilization evolved and how different rulers channelled their resources into monuments that still shape how we understand this island’s heritage.

Combined Cultural Tours (Anuradhapura + Mihintale)

Visit Sri Lanka's two most sacred sites in a profound spiritual journey that traces Buddhism's arrival and flourishing on the island.
