Things to Do
After dark, Ulagalla becomes a different place. The night walk shows you what comes out only after sunset, creatures you’d never spot during the day.
Our guides lead the way with torches, teaching you to look for things your eyes aren’t used to finding. Spider eyes catch the light and glow like tiny jewels. Massive land snails inch across the path. If you’re quiet, you might hear a porcupine rustling through the undergrowth, or catch the strange call of a nightjar from somewhere in the canopy.
Your other senses sharpen when you can’t rely on sight. Certain flowers release their scent only at night. The air cools and carries sounds differently, frogs call from the pond, crickets layer their rhythms, movement you can hear but not see.
What the walk does is pull back the curtain on an entire ecosystem that operates while most people sleep. It’s a reminder that the natural world doesn’t pause when we’re not paying attention. It just continues, endlessly inventive, in the dark.
