The Uga Guide to Ella

Ella is often remembered for its viewpoints, but there is far more to this part of the hill country than the places that fill postcards. Tea estates stretch across the hillsides, trains wind through mountain passes, and waterfalls appear unexpectedly between the forests. There’s always another trail to follow, another story to be found, another reason to slow down at every bend.

Many of these experiences begin right from Uga Ghiri. Walk sections of the Pekoe Trail through working tea estates, cycle down from the Namunukula mountain range, or spend time discovering the craft, history, and people behind Sri Lanka’s tea heritage. Take a trip to Little Adam’s Peak, the Nine Arch Bridge, Lipton’s Seat or Diyaluma Falls – each presenting a different perspective on the landscapes that have sculpted this area for generations.

Whether you spend your days hiking, exploring tea country, or simply taking in the changing views, Ella has a way of revealing itself gradually. The more time you give it, the more there is to discover.
